The Board of Directors of Karate Newfoundland & Labrador, is pleased to announce that at a special general meeting of members held Sunday, May 24th in St. John’s, the bylaws of the organization were replaced in their entirety.
The purpose of the update was to:
- modernize governance to align with best practices, legislation, and partner expectations for Karate NL.
- Introduce clarity on document hierarchy, definitions, voting authority, and decision-making processes to streamline operations.
- Strengthen accountability through financial oversight, conflict-of-interest rules, and director qualification requirements.
Additional updates include electronic meetings, notice requirements, and compliance to protect the organization and reduce risks.

The Board of Directors would like to thank the Governance Committee members, Maggie Corcoran, Stephen Hinchey, and Mark Elliott for their assistance in researching and revising the bylaws.
