Karate NL wishes to congratulate its provincial team athletes, coaches, and officials who took part in the 2024 Karate Canada National Championships in Laval, QC from July 4 – 7, 2024.

Provincial athletes competed in both kumite and kata with a number of top 5 finishes:

  • Jack Tilley: Male Youth -40 KG Kumite: 5th Place
  • Grayson Oldford: Male Youth +55 KG Kumite: 5th Place
  • Jane Fancy: Female Junior +66 KG Kumite: 5th Place
  • Grace Noseworthy: Female Junior -66 KG Kumite: 5th Place
  • Emma Pittman: Female U21 -55 KG Kumite: 5th Place

Special mention to Emily Reglar who won 4th place bronze in her Female U21 -55 KG kumite category.

This year, Karate NL sent three coaches to Nationals. In addition to Head Coach Nathaniel Besso and Assistant Coach Colby Besso, Alex Hollett attended his first Nationals as Karate NL’s new kata coach. KNL would like to thank our three coaches for their tireless efforts leading up to and during this year’s Nationals.

Finally, Karate NL would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the two officials from Newfoundland and Labrador who participated in this year’s Nationals, Wing Au and Paul Burton. Without volunteers and officials, these events are simply not possible.
