Provincial Team Roster
The Provincial Team Roster has been released as of January 19th, 2025 and can be found here.
Athletes who wish to be listed on the Provincial Team Roster must meet the requirements outlined in Sections 1.1 and 1.2 of the current Karate NL Athlete Agreement. These requirement are in place to ensure athletes maintain an appropriate level of fitness and experience, while also ensuring athletes live by the philosophy and values outlined in Part I of the Athlete Agreement.
Selection to the Provincial Team Roster does not guarantee an athlete will be selected to compete at the Karate Canada’s National Championships. In order to be selected to compete at Nationals, athletes must meet the following requirements as set out in the Athlete Agreement.
- Adhere to all requirements set out in Part II, Sections 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 of the Athlete Areement.
- Be recommended by their Club Coach.
- All athletes must be selected by the coaching committee to compete at the Karate Canada National Karate Championships. The coaching committee makes their selection decisions based on the following criteria:
- Provincial Ranking System: Athletes are ranked on the Karate NL Provincial Ranking based on their performance in sanctioned competitions. Points are awarded according to established criteria, reflecting achievements in various events.
- Team Selection: For kumite, the top 3 athletes in each age and weight category on the Provincial Ranking may be selected for the Provincial Team. For kata, the top 4 athletes in each category may be selected for the Provincial Team. Selection is based on the current standings and adherence to all relevant policies and regulations.
- Eligibility and Compliance: Athletes must meet all Karate Canada eligibility requirements and comply with Karate NL’s codes of conduct and standards. This includes maintaining a good standing within the organization and adhering to any relevant rules or guidelines.
Provincial Ranking System
The Provincial Rankings were last updated following the January 11th, 2025 Provincial Tournament held in St. John’s and can be found here. Any discrepancies noted or questions may be forwarded to Karate NL.
Points are awarded to each elite athlete based on their placement in their respective categories following each Karate NL sanctioned tournament. A summary of point totals awarded is provided below.
