KidSport Newfoundland and Labrador provides children with:
• The opportunity to enjoy a season of children’s sport programming;
• Healthy habits that will last their whole lives;
• Valuable life lessons and skills including leadership, practice, hard work, dedication, and self confidence;
• Access to mentorship and guidance from coaches.

The REAL Program is a nonprofit that relies on community support to create life-changing opportunities for children and youth in financial need.
Applications are open to residents of the City of St. John’s. More information can be found on the City’s website.
Travel Subsidies

Funding is available for youth who are residents of St. John’s who are travelling outside of the province for events that broaden horizons in education, sport, culture, or social or political interests.

The National Championship Travel Subsidy (NCTS) is available from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and designed to offset the high travel costs for Newfoundland and Labrador athletes participating in national championships. The NCTS provides financial assistance to offset travel and accommodations expenses.
Karate NL as the Provincial Sport Organization for karate in NL will apply for this grant when required.
Performance Awards

The Athletic Excellence Fund (AEF) recognizes athletic and academic excellence of the province’s top athletes. Supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation (TCAR) and Sport Newfoundland and Labrador (Sport NL), the AEF includes the Premier’s Athletic Awards, Team Gushue Awards, Elite Athlete Assistance, Michelle Healey Memorial Award, and Sport NL Scholarships.
The timing of these awards varies through the year. Please refer to the Government of NL website and social media for details as they are released.
Para-Karate

The Parasport and Recreation for Persons with a Disability Funding Program administered by Recreation NL, is a strategic initiative supported by the provincial government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007). The program aims to increase support, remove barriers and develop actions to support individuals with physical disabilities to participate in recreation and compete in sport activities.
Funding is available to support the following:
1) Equipment
2) Travel Assistance
3) Recreation & Sport Development Projects/Initiatives
4) Instructor/Coach Training
